The declaration of a Public Health Emergency International Concern (PHEIC) is key mechanism within the 2005 Regulations (IHR) and governance global health security. made by Director-General WHO, upon advice an expert Committee call for governments to prepare emergency.1 Since this came into existence, PHEICs have been declared six times: H1N1 influenza (2009), polio (2014), Ebola (west Africa, 2014), Zika (2016), (DR Congo, 2019), COVID-19 (2020).
